The Maritime Museum of British Columbia is seeking four local performers or groups to participate in its 45th annual Victoria Classic Boat Festival. Selected performers will be contacted to confirm availability and scheduling of their dock time throughout the Festival, and to register via our online events platform.
Timeline for Applicants
January 9, 2024 – call for performers and musicians launches
March 11, 2024 – application period closes for Music Program at 11:59 PM
April 15, 2024 – selection of performers announced
August 30 – September 1, 2024 – Victoria Classic Boat Festival runs in the Inner Harbour
Selected Groups Receive
- $200 honorarium
- 2-hour performance slot in high-traffic areas during the weekend
- tickets for all performers to the Friday night opening reception
Performance Brief
Performers applying for the program must have clear experience in performance, as displayed in their recording(s). All types and styles of music are welcome; we are looking for maritime connections! Performers should have a stated interest or connection to heritage boats and/or maritime culture. Performers must bring their own instruments and sound amplification equipment (if applicable) for their performance time. Time slots are 2 hours in length.
Eligibility
- Open to all ages; performers under age 18 must have a guardian sign for them.
- Artists must be residing in Canada
Selection of Artists
We will announce the first cohort of the Artists Aboard Program by April 15, 2024. The selection criteria include considering performers’ interest and connection to heritage boats and/or maritime culture, and the quality of their recorded performance(s). Performers must be available for their scheduled dock time. The Maritime Museum of BC reserves the right to reject applications and close the program if submissions do not reflect the performance brief.
Copyright and Non-Exclusive License
Performers retain copyright to both their performances and original music, and all materials performed at the Festival. Performers do not transfer copyright or any automatic licensing or use of their recordings, original music, or materials created at the Festival. Performers are required to allow the Museum to film and photograph their performance at the Festival, for non-commercial, educational purposes, in formats and settings that include, but are not limited to, print and electronic publications, social media marketing, events and exhibitions, internet websites, classrooms, and online.
